Now you have even fewer reasons to stop scrolling through your Facebook feed. If checking nearby restaurants to find one that allowed you to order food directly from its Facebook page was enough to drive you away from the site in search of food, you’re in luck.
Facebook has quietly introduced a new button in its navigation menu that enables you to order and pay for food in one place. The button is both on the Facebook web site and within the mobile app.
When users click the button, they are shown the nearby restaurants that will allow them to order through Facebook. They can select a restaurant, browse the menu and add items to their order. Once the order is completed, according to a report in TechCrunch, users can then submit the order, specify a tip and pay, all within Facebook.
The new navigation point is part of a test, meaning that not all users will see it, the article said.
The move extends functionality the company introduced in October, to help users connect with local businesses.
The added features also included the ability to request appointments, buy movie tickets, or get quotes from local businesses.
With the original introduction of the features, Facebook enabled users to order food directly from the pages of restaurants that used Delivery.com or Slice for online ordering. The new Order Food button gathers those restaurants in one place.
“Today we’re starting to introduce a variety of new features that help you use those connections to discover new things in the world around you, decide what to do or where to go, and connect with local businesses in easier and faster ways,” Facebook said at the time in a blog post.
“This is the first step, and over the coming months we’ll be launching even more new features that will make it easier to get things done, make confident decisions and communicate directly with businesses on your time and terms,” the company said.
